My husband and I have been doing a lot of long distance driving this year and have had the opportunity to listen to classic books on CD to help pass the time. Earlier this year, we listened to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
The book is set in London circa 2500 AD where humans are created in hatcheries and their level of intelligence, and therefore their whole existence, contributions to society and jobs, are determined by the quality of the chemicals and feed put into their gestational fluid. Once the human is born, the programming continues by what they are taught and the messages that are played to them endlessly during their sleep, during waking hours on the radio, etc.
It is almost impossible to act outside the bounds of what society has determined for the characters simply because the constant programming makes the actions one takes seem so appropriate. The programming creates the person’s reality.
My question for all of us is “what are we allowing to be played in our heads 24/7?” What programming do we allow society, our parents, our children, our television show selections and our government to play in our head at all times of the day and night?
Is it something that feeds our soul or feeds our anger? Is it something that helps us to help our fellow human or is it something that divides us from others?
The question as to whether it is better to be born an “Alpha” (the ultimate HAVES in Brave New World) or a “Gamma” (the ultimate HAVE NOTS) is not really the question to ask yourself. The question to ask yourself is, what am I am I doing about each and every choice I can make in each and every moment, today, including what I might otherwise view as banal entertainment or subliminal choices.
Not every choice you make has to be a highbrow choice without fun or easy moments to simply relax. But, everything you program into yourself finds a place in your memory and your subconscious and may play out in a knee jerk response when you least expect it. Allow your “self programming” to be what you want it to be, what serves you, and reject the programming that no longer serves you.
There are many techniques and teachings to help you eliminate the old programming, but at least start to recognize that you no longer need to accept the old programming and you, and you alone, can change the channel for your new programming. Doing this will allow you to step into A BRAVE NEW WORLD of your own choosing.

Divinely Tolerant, The You You Truly Want to BE!
It is hard to exist in the United States at this moment without wondering what a little more tolerance would do for our society. We don’t even have to look outside our country’s borders to imagine what more acceptance and tolerance would do to help us and to calm the rhetoric. However, if we did look outside our borders, the feeling would be even more magnified. To paraphrase Burt Bacharach…what the world needs now is tolerance, sweet tolerance.
But, I don’t want to write about politics and what does not even pass for civil discord any more than you want to read about it! I do want to write about Divine Tolerance, because I know that standing in the energy and being the energy of Divine Tolerance…being Divinely Tolerant is what you truly want to be.
The reason you want to be Divinely Tolerant, is not because you believe all people are created equal and are allowed to express their opinions, at least here in the good ole U S of A. No, that is merely an external recognition of what you believe on the inside. The reason you want to be Divinely Tolerant is because it makes YOU FEEL BETTER…on the inside and on the out.
When tolerance is the energy you feel, you are calm, you are peaceful, you are at ease with yourself, your fellow humans and the world. You do not have to agree with what others are doing or how they are living their lives, but you can be tolerant of their unalienable right to live their lives as they understand their paths to be.
When you are not feeling tolerant, your blood pressure increases, your anger may boil over and the food you are trying to wolf down is not sitting well in your stomach. No amount of antacids or Pilates is going to be able to relieve the physical manifestations of feeling intolerant. No amount of posting on Facebook or writing letters to editors or corporations will eliminate the truth of the thorn in your paw.
The thorn in your paw is not your feelings regarding how someone else chooses to live their lives. Instead, it is the lack of understanding that others have formed their opinions and the actions that flow from their opinions from their experiences, beliefs and behavioral patterns. Whether they are good/bad, right/wrong/indifferent experiences or beliefs, (if we are using judgmental language) it doesn’t matter. Their experiences are still how they came upon the beliefs they have and the actions they take.
We all have the ability to start to make different choices from how we were raised or to rise above certain limiting beliefs that we have been taught. I encourage all of us to look at what we believe through the lens of how the Divine-In-All-Of-Us would view it to determine if our beliefs and actions still hold true for us. However, regardless of our own personal growth, it behooves us to be tolerant of others based on where they are in their own personal growth. And in fact, regardless of their age and other demographics, this might lend you to be even more tolerant of other people, instead of less.
As with anything, the gift in Divine Tolerance isn’t for the other person, it is for us. It will improve our lives.

If it doesn't fit....
My husband and I just moved from St. Augustine, FL to Fort Collins, CO. We used a Pack Rat Container to move our household belongings. We gave away a lot of furniture and other items before we moved knowing that some of the stuff was not suppose to make the move. There was a little concern that we could be over our weight allowance on the container, but other than that, there was a bit of comfort in knowing that if something didn’t fit, it wouldn’t ship! No gnashing of teeth, simply no more room for extra stuff!
Maybe that is the lesson for us all from this experience, if something in our lives no longer fits, we should not try to take it with us into the next chapter of our life, indeed…don’t try to take it into the next moment of our lives.
Autumn has always been my favorite time of the year. I think it has something to do with how the light slants onto the earth. Plus, I have always felt like The Fall brings new adventures with the starting of new school years…and particularly for me this year…the start of the new chapter of living in Fort Collins. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do your “spring cleaning” yet this year, borrow a page out of my book, and use the energy and the light of the Autumn to remember that … if it no longer fits, don’t let it “slip” into your next moment.

If you are like most Americans, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 is your Federal Individual Tax Return deadline for Tax Year 2011. For the majority of individuals in America, Tax Day looms large over our heads like the sword of Damocles, bringing abject fear to some or just mild frustration to others. But, today, I don’t want to talk about how we should feel about Tax Day 2012 with respect to our 2011 Tax filing, but instead how we should feel about April 17, 2012 with respect to our 2008 Tax filing. And the word that comes to mind is ABSOLUTION.
For the vast majority of us who filed our 2008 Federal Income Tax Return by April 15, 2009, this April will be the end of the statute of limitations for the items in that return. How exciting is that?! (Let’s not get so far down the rabbit hole that we discuss the oddities like carry-overs, or in the case of fraud, etc. We will stick to the most relevant stuff!) The end of the statute of limitations means if we goofed, we don’t have to worry about the IRS coming back to refigure our taxes for 2008 and prior. Collective sigh of relief!
If the Federal Government, the IRS no less, is willing to only look back three years into our financial business…why do we carry around so much of our personal failings, personal grudges and negative-group-think many years, many life times into the future? What is the statute of ABSOLUTION on our perceived failings? Three years? Thirty years? Never?
The caveat for the three year statute of limitations to work with our taxes is that you must actually file your tax return. If you have never filed the return, the three year time limit doesn’t start…so it never ends.
This really is no different for our personal issues. If we don’t look at the issue and start the process to forgive ourselves, to change our energy or our focus, then the festering never has a chance to heal. Even if your initial attempt to heal / change / forgive yourself isn’t perfect, think of it as your “first offer”. You can always update or “amend” it as new information comes in.
I can beat myself up about wrong doings as much as the next human, but I am going to set my intentions to no longer flagellate myself for more than three years!! I know, I know, we shouldn’t even let it go that long, especially if we have learned from the lesson. But, if nothing else seems to work in order to forgive ourselves, let us at least be as compassionate with ourselves as the IRS is.

Divine Reckless Abandonment: A Key to Your Internal Passion.
Many of us are stuck in fear and inaction. To help us move out of the lethargy, let’s explore Divine Reckless Abandonment!
Divine Reckless Abandonment is the companion resonance to Divine Pure Joy. It is descriptive of the feeling when you are so committed to a path that you throw caution to the wind and trust the inner voice which is spurring you on to make the changes in your life that you need to make. It encourages you to take up a cause which you have been afraid to take up and to speak your truth no matter who is listening…or maybe more importantly, no matter who IS NOT listening. You have zeal, fervor and passion for what you know to be your truth and are willing to embrace that truth through thick and thin.

Soylent Green Movie
I recently watched Soylent Green, the 1973 movie starring Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson. I had not seen the movie based on my tender age when it first came out!! I knew the punch line but would have been sketchy on the real plot of the movie.
I was fascinated by the movie for all the issues it made me ponder, the least of which was probably the true nature of the food product called Soylent Green. I had not realized that "Soylent” (presumably the “Soy” refers to soy beans) was the name of the corporation that owned the food supply chain.
Here are some of the aspects that truly made me think. I don’t think I am giving away too much by bringing these items up for discussion…but I will say “spoiler alert” if you would rather watch the movie first and then read the rest of this entry.
· The movie takes place in 2022 in New York City. What fears and/or false beliefs did the people of what would be our current generation buy-into to allow one corporation to own the entire food supply chain? Are we on the verge of doing the same ourselves?
· Why were people treated with more humanity and compassion when they volunteered to be euthanized than they were treated when they wanted to live?
· Why didn’t more people volunteer to be euthanized? Were there certain criteria you had to meet to qualify to be euthanized?
· Did the movie only focus on single rich men and how they lived differently from the masses? Or were there some families / couples who lived in the wealthy apartments with plenty of hot water and a refrigerator full of food?
· Would men expect and women allow the in-equality of power between the roles of men and women to be the accepted norm?
· Was the power of the police so complete that you refused them nothing, knowing they would take it anyway?
· Do we really believe that 40 Million people in an area the size of the city of Manhattan could really be so efficiently and effectively controlled by riot patrol and fear of starvation and death?
· Why in the world did Charlton and Edward’s characters make a stew out of a perfectly good flank steak? (Seems sacrilegious even to this non red-meat eater!)
What points have I missed? Please feel free to weigh in with your comments. We could make this a lively discussion!
