My husband and I have been doing a lot of long distance driving this year and have had the opportunity to listen to classic books on CD to help pass the time. Earlier this year, we listened to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
The book is set in London circa 2500 AD where humans are created in hatcheries and their level of intelligence, and therefore their whole existence, contributions to society and jobs, are determined by the quality of the chemicals and feed put into their gestational fluid. Once the human is born, the programming continues by what they are taught and the messages that are played to them endlessly during their sleep, during waking hours on the radio, etc.
It is almost impossible to act outside the bounds of what society has determined for the characters simply because the constant programming makes the actions one takes seem so appropriate. The programming creates the person’s reality.
My question for all of us is “what are we allowing to be played in our heads 24/7?” What programming do we allow society, our parents, our children, our television show selections and our government to play in our head at all times of the day and night?
Is it something that feeds our soul or feeds our anger? Is it something that helps us to help our fellow human or is it something that divides us from others?
The question as to whether it is better to be born an “Alpha” (the ultimate HAVES in Brave New World) or a “Gamma” (the ultimate HAVE NOTS) is not really the question to ask yourself. The question to ask yourself is, what am I am I doing about each and every choice I can make in each and every moment, today, including what I might otherwise view as banal entertainment or subliminal choices.
Not every choice you make has to be a highbrow choice without fun or easy moments to simply relax. But, everything you program into yourself finds a place in your memory and your subconscious and may play out in a knee jerk response when you least expect it. Allow your “self programming” to be what you want it to be, what serves you, and reject the programming that no longer serves you.
There are many techniques and teachings to help you eliminate the old programming, but at least start to recognize that you no longer need to accept the old programming and you, and you alone, can change the channel for your new programming. Doing this will allow you to step into A BRAVE NEW WORLD of your own choosing.

Divinely Tolerant, The You You Truly Want to BE!
It is hard to exist in the United States at this moment without wondering what a little more tolerance would do for our society. We don’t even have to look outside our country’s borders to imagine what more acceptance and tolerance would do to help us and to calm the rhetoric. However, if we did look outside our borders, the feeling would be even more magnified. To paraphrase Burt Bacharach…what the world needs now is tolerance, sweet tolerance.
But, I don’t want to write about politics and what does not even pass for civil discord any more than you want to read about it! I do want to write about Divine Tolerance, because I know that standing in the energy and being the energy of Divine Tolerance…being Divinely Tolerant is what you truly want to be.
The reason you want to be Divinely Tolerant, is not because you believe all people are created equal and are allowed to express their opinions, at least here in the good ole U S of A. No, that is merely an external recognition of what you believe on the inside. The reason you want to be Divinely Tolerant is because it makes YOU FEEL BETTER…on the inside and on the out.
When tolerance is the energy you feel, you are calm, you are peaceful, you are at ease with yourself, your fellow humans and the world. You do not have to agree with what others are doing or how they are living their lives, but you can be tolerant of their unalienable right to live their lives as they understand their paths to be.
When you are not feeling tolerant, your blood pressure increases, your anger may boil over and the food you are trying to wolf down is not sitting well in your stomach. No amount of antacids or Pilates is going to be able to relieve the physical manifestations of feeling intolerant. No amount of posting on Facebook or writing letters to editors or corporations will eliminate the truth of the thorn in your paw.
The thorn in your paw is not your feelings regarding how someone else chooses to live their lives. Instead, it is the lack of understanding that others have formed their opinions and the actions that flow from their opinions from their experiences, beliefs and behavioral patterns. Whether they are good/bad, right/wrong/indifferent experiences or beliefs, (if we are using judgmental language) it doesn’t matter. Their experiences are still how they came upon the beliefs they have and the actions they take.
We all have the ability to start to make different choices from how we were raised or to rise above certain limiting beliefs that we have been taught. I encourage all of us to look at what we believe through the lens of how the Divine-In-All-Of-Us would view it to determine if our beliefs and actions still hold true for us. However, regardless of our own personal growth, it behooves us to be tolerant of others based on where they are in their own personal growth. And in fact, regardless of their age and other demographics, this might lend you to be even more tolerant of other people, instead of less.
As with anything, the gift in Divine Tolerance isn’t for the other person, it is for us. It will improve our lives.

If it doesn't fit....
My husband and I just moved from St. Augustine, FL to Fort Collins, CO. We used a Pack Rat Container to move our household belongings. We gave away a lot of furniture and other items before we moved knowing that some of the stuff was not suppose to make the move. There was a little concern that we could be over our weight allowance on the container, but other than that, there was a bit of comfort in knowing that if something didn’t fit, it wouldn’t ship! No gnashing of teeth, simply no more room for extra stuff!
Maybe that is the lesson for us all from this experience, if something in our lives no longer fits, we should not try to take it with us into the next chapter of our life, indeed…don’t try to take it into the next moment of our lives.
Autumn has always been my favorite time of the year. I think it has something to do with how the light slants onto the earth. Plus, I have always felt like The Fall brings new adventures with the starting of new school years…and particularly for me this year…the start of the new chapter of living in Fort Collins. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do your “spring cleaning” yet this year, borrow a page out of my book, and use the energy and the light of the Autumn to remember that … if it no longer fits, don’t let it “slip” into your next moment.
